Flag of Antigua and Barbuda (GIF)

The national flag of Antigua and Barbuda, characterized by a red field with an inverted isosceles triangle based on the top edge, points towards the bottom edge, adorned with a horizontal tricolor of black, light blue, and white, and a centered rising sun from the bottom of the black band. The rising sun represents the emergence of a new era. The colors hold specific meanings; black symbolizes the African ancestry of the people, blue signifies hope, and red signifies the vibrant energy or life of the nation. Additionally, the arrangement of black, yellow, blue, and white (from the sun down) signifies the elements of soil, sun, sea, and sand. The blue also serves as a representation of the Caribbean Sea, while the V-shape stands as a symbol of victory. The presence of seven rays of the sun symbolizes each of the six parishes and the island of Barbuda.
