Flag of Georgia (GIF)

The flag of Georgia (Georgian: საქართველოს სახელმწიფო დროშა), also known as the "Five Cross Flag," is a highly distinctive design, featuring a white field with a large red cross that extends to the edges of the flag. Inside each of the four quadrants created by the cross, there is a smaller red cross, known as a "cross potent." This design dates back to the 5th century and is associated with the national hero, St. George. The flag is rich in symbolism: the white represents innocence, purity, and wisdom; the color red symbolizes courage, bravery, justice, and love; the large red cross symbolizes Christian faith; and the four smaller crosses represent the four historic regions of Georgia: Imereti, Mingrelia, Guria, and Abkhazia. The five crosses are sometimes interpreted as symbolizing the Five Holy Wounds or the Messiah and the Four Evangelists. Despite its political complexities, the flag remains a powerful symbol of Georgia's national identity and its strong ties to the Orthodox Christian faith.

The coat of arms of Georgia is a striking heraldic shield, featuring a red field with a silver rider on a silver horse, brandishing a silver spear ending with a golden cross. The rider, St. George, is depicted with a golden halo, slaying a silver dragon. The shield is crowned with the Iverian (Georgian) crown, symbolizing Georgia's royal heritage. The supporters on either side of the shield are two golden lions, standing on a compartment adorned with a stylized grapevine ornament. The compartment features a silver motto ribbon with the Georgian motto "ძალა ერთობაშია" ("Strength is in unity") written in black Mkhedruli letters. The ribbon is adorned with red heraldic crosses at its beginning and end. This emblem is rich in historical and religious symbolism, serving as a powerful representation of Georgia's identity, heritage, and faith.
